The
official ASTP patch chosen by NASA and the Soviet
Academy of Science. The words "Apollo" in English
and "Soyuz" in Russian encircle a center disc, which
depicts the two spacecraft docked together in earth
orbit. "Soyuz" means "union" in English.
On
the American crew patch, the white stars on the blue
background represent astronauts Stafford, Brand, and
Slayton. The dark gold stars on the red background
represent cosmonauts Aleskey Leonov and Valeriy Kubascov.
