MOONWALKERS
is the creation of veteran space journalist and producer John Getter. As
Senior Vice President of Creative Services of Space Media, Incorporated,
Getter was responsible for the formation of the company, with a focus on
development of content and intellectual property for broadcast and Internet
distribution. He managed the creation, writing and implementation of the
initial business plan, recruited directors, managers and employees, and
oversaw creation of business development proposals to NASA and private sector
companies. He also led the design and implementation of web and broadcast
media projects in orbit and on the ground, and negotiated protocols with
International partners in Russia, Europe and South America. Working with engineers and scientists from parent company SPACEHAB and partner RSC Energia of Russia, Getter led team efforts that created the preliminary design requirements for the first planned private facility in orbit, a multimedia studio designed for attachment to the International Space Station. As Chief Operating Officer of Enermedia, LLC operated jointly by Space Media and RSC Energia, Getter negotiated the protocols and business plans involved in bringing to market the previously secret archives of the USSR/Russian space program while supervising staff in both countries. A broadcast journalist since 1967, Getter joined KHOU-TV of Houston, Texas, in 1981 and covered the first mission of the Space Shuttle. As a space and science reporter for the next 10 years, he provided in-depth coverage of the first 35 Shuttle missions and was a regular contributor to and consultant for CBS News. His stories were routinely syndicated to CBS affiliates and other outlets in more than 100 countries and on CNN. Getter produced initial CBS News coverage of the Challenger Space Shuttle accident in 1986. Five years later, he produced the commemorative program about that event on behalf of the Challenger Center for Space Science Education. He also has covered news in Washington, D.C., as well as Houston for KHOU and CBS NEWSPATH; he traveled to Russia to cover accidents aboard the Russian Mir space station for KHOU and CBS. Getter has received awards for his work from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (three Emmys), Aviation and Space Writers' Association, United States Jaycees, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and others.
